Avenoir is Calum Scott’s third studio album, and it marks a notable departure from his previous work. While Bridges was an album we greatly enjoyed, Avenoir presents a more mature and introspective side of the artist.

The album’s title sets the tone perfectly. Avenoir is a coined poetic term meaning “the desire that memory could flow backwards” — a longing to experience life in reverse, allowing memories to approach from the future rather than recede into the past. This concept resonates throughout the record, which balances moments of warmth and hope with deeper reflections on love, loss, and personal growth.

From the upbeat and infectious Roots, which recalls the pop energy of Maroon 5, to heartfelt ballads such as Die for You, Scott explores a broad emotional spectrum. The album is both tender and bittersweet, reflecting the duality suggested by its title.

At Les Épicuriens Culture, we found Avenoir to be a strong and compelling release. 

However, its overall tone is more serious and, at times, more melancholic than that of Bridges or his debut album, Only Human. Despite this shift, the album remains engaging and sincere, showcasing Scott’s artistic growth and emotional depth.

While different from his earlier releases, Avenoir confirms Calum Scott’s ability to connect with listeners through honest storytelling and powerful melodies. It is an album that rewards reflection and deserves a place among his most accomplished works.
