Machos Alfa: A Sharp and Entertaining Look at Modern Masculinity

Today at Les Épicuriens Culture, we would like to highlight Machos Alfa, a Netflix series that explores modern masculinity in all its contradictions, challenges, and transformations.
The story follows four friends—Pedro, Raúl, Santi, and Luis—as they struggle to adapt to a rapidly changing society while navigating personal, romantic, and professional crises.
Through their relationships with Daniela, Luz, Esther, and Blanca, the series tackles highly relevant contemporary issues, including feminism, evolving concepts of masculinity, open relationships, sexual identity, and the social pressures surrounding what it means to “be a man” today.
Pedro works in marketing and lives with Daniela, an influencer and content creator. One of the couple’s main sources of tension emerges when Daniela begins earning more money than he does, challenging traditional notions of masculinity and gender roles.
Raúl and Luz share a turbulent relationship marked by breakups and reconciliations. Luz is bisexual and explores different ways of loving and connecting with others, while Raúl gradually discovers his own heteroflexible side—a concept the series approaches with both humour and sensitivity.
Santi, an architect and father of a teenage daughter, is trying to rebuild his life after divorcing Blanca. His daughter even sets him up on Tinder dates, leading to a number of awkward yet highly entertaining situations.
Finally, Luis is a police officer married to Esther. As parents of two children, they represent a more traditional family model, although they too face doubts and challenges as gender roles continue to evolve.
What impressed us most about Machos Alfa is its ability to address complex social and personal issues with lightness, irony, and genuine humour. The series succeeds in making viewers laugh while encouraging reflection on relationships, love, and masculinity in the modern world.
Smart, funny, and highly relatable, Machos Alfa offers an engaging and insightful portrayal of contemporary life and changing gender dynamics.
